Northern Ireland Healthcare Award winners 2021 revealed

Last Thursday (23 September), the Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards returned for its 22nd year. After last year’s online event in response to COVID-19 restrictions, the region’s healthcare professionals were finally able to come together in person in Belfast.

Fuel panic buying: PDA writes to Prime Minister

In response to concerns from members, the PDA has written to the Prime Minister asking him to ensure that fuel supply is prioritised to enable pharmacists, their colleagues, medicines and clinical equipment to reach the pharmacy.

PDA urges members to ask their MP to stop thousands of patients facing prescription charges

As a member of the prescription charges coalition, the PDA is encouraging members to request their MP sign a motion that opposes the proposal to introduce prescription charges for those aged between 60 and 66, in England.

PDA hosts Q&A webinar for students preparing to sit their Oriel tests

Last week (14 September), the PDA hosted a Q&A webinar for fourth-year MPharm students on the Oriel Situational Judgement Test and Numeracy Test. The webinar was free to PDA members and covered what to expect and how to revise for the tests.

A new report from NHS England suggests that some patients are being overprescribed prescription medicines which could be unnecessary and even harmful. The PDA welcomes this new focus but says that pharmacists must be enabled to deliver pharmaceutical care if the NHS is serious about addressing the issue of overprescribing.
