Government respond to anti-remote supervision petition to Keep Pharmacists Present for Patients

Last month the Government responded to the public petition against proposals which could see pharmacies operating without the presence of a Responsible Pharmacist, after the petition received over 10,000 signatures (compared to just 632 responses to the government's consultation on the matter).

PDA responds to the GPhC’s consultation on initial education and training standards for pharmacists

The GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council) consulted from 9 January 2019 to 3 April 2019 on changes to the initial education and training standards for pharmacists. The PDA have expressed concerns about the GPhC proposals in its consultation response.

Wallgreens Boots Alliance have “most difficult quarter” of trading

Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) has warned that it may be forced to close stores and cut jobs in the UK after suffering the “most difficult quarter” since its formation via merger in 2014, even though the vertically integrated multinational is still making £Billions in profits. The PDA Union will be supporting any members affected by the consequences of this announcement.

PDA releases patient safety survey results (2015 to 2018)

PDA responds to the NHSI Consultation on Developing a Patient Safety Strategy for the NHS

NHS Improvement consulted on a patient safety strategy for the NHS. The consultation ran from 14 December 2018 to 15 February 2019. The PDA generally welcomes and supports the proposals in the consultation. However, there is a significant need for increased focus on systems issues affecting medicines safety in pharmacy.
